| | | WHY STORE FOOD??
Why store food anyway? There are many reasons. You never know what may happen. Keeping food on hand protects you just as insurance does for your car or home. Of all the reasons we've heard, the one that most hits home here in Florida, is natural disaster preparedness. More and more areas are getting hit hard by "major" natural disasters, whether it be floods, tornado, earthquakes, hurricanes, etc. Having lived on the East Coast (Florida) for 35yrs. it just kinda makes sense to BE PREPARED! If you're in a hurricane prone area, remember that despite recent overactive seasons, this one is predicted to be even more so with 14 storms, (10 Named Hurricanes/4 Intense Storms). The Red Cross suggests "...Store at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food. Select foods that require no refrigeration, preparation or cooking, and little or no water. If you must heat food, pack a can of sterno. Select food items that are compact and lightweight...." in their Disaster Supply checklist on being prepared. Red Cross Emergency Preparedness Check List |
